Tour Mozambique and Malawi safari and beach – E56

A regenerating itinerary between safaris and pristine beaches.

WHAT WE WILL SEE

Tour Mozambique and Malawi safari and beach. A diverse and complete tour.  Ocean environment of the coast, from tea plantations, to the warm welcome of Malawi, safaris in Majete Wildlife Reserve in the Shire Valley, a success story of restocking and conservation.

From safaris in the Majete park, to tea plantations, to the hospitality of Malawi. From the marine environment with the coastal beaches, to the history of Ilha de Mozambique.

We will enter the Majete park, in the Shire Valley, a story of success and repopulation. All the big five are present, lions, leopards, black rhinos, elephants and buffaloes, as well as black antelope, zebras and now also wild dogs as well as other species. We will enter the heart of the park by jeep even at night for safaris in search of predators.

In Mulanje in Malawi the first tea plantations in Africa were introduced at the end of the 19th century: the views open up spectacularly in huge, rolling hills covered by the immaculate, green mantle of tea. Walking through the immense spaces of the plantations we will be able to meet the tea workers, who patiently collect the young leaves at the top of the plants, leaf after leaf, and understand the processing of tea. In the background Mount Mulanje, a mountain that reaches 3002 meters.

We will then cross the north of Mozambique, up to the coast and to Ilha de Moçambique, a World Heritage island, the story of a jewel of traditions and cultures that cannot be missed on a trip to Africa. Here you can also organize a whale watching safari, a safari on traditional dhows to spot the passage of whales in the wild. Here the bays follow one another endlessly to form the most beautiful beaches in Mozambique on the Indian Ocean: absolute beauty and tranquility. A safari and sea tour.

DURATION: 10 days. Possibility of extensions on the coast of the Indian Ocean.

The country is welcoming and warm: its people have a warm and hospitable heart that in no other country in Africa we have ever heard. Away from tourism, despite the poignant beauty of its landscape, its hospitable and incredibly friendly people, the kilometers of pristine beaches of golden sand, Malawi is a country not yet discovered by tourism and this makes it even more fascinating. After meeting at the airport, we will drive immediately to Majete Wildlife Reserve, to get to the heart of the park and safari. Overnight at the lodge, located in the park overlooking a waterhole where we often spotted elephants and nyala. Full board.

Legends and stories are part of the Malawian culture that describes the mountain of Mulanje, "the island in the sky": this is also why the site has been proposed in the list of World Heritage Sites. We will therefore have some legends told to us by those who have always lived under this 650 km2 mountain, which at 3002 meters is the highest point in southern Africa.  Return at 3.30pm - relax. Africawildtruck lodge, full board.

DAY 5 MULANJE - BORDER - ILHA. Customs formalities to entry into Mozambique. Wake up at dawn and travel the whole day to cross the north of Mozambique. A road with some potholes will lead us, in passages between numerous villages, to the dusty town of Nampula; a long day of travel through the fertile highlands of northern Mozambique, passing through Alto Molocuè, an area remembered for the splendid views typical of the tobacco plantations and the numerous inselbergs that characterize the whole area. Evening entry into the city of Ilha de Moçambique, crossing the bridge (3 km) that connects it to the mainland.  Bed and breakfast

DAY 6 ILHA DE MOZAMBIQUE We will live in contact with the two souls of the city: the Macuti city, built with characteristic thatched roofs, and the stone city, founded by the Portuguese at the beginning of the sixteenth century. Relax.  Overnight stay in the lodge, like the previous night. Bed and breakfast

DAy 9 ILHA DE MOZAMBIQUE The name of the entire country derives from the island of Mozambique; A World Heritage Site, it was the first capital of Portuguese East Africa. The importance of the island was and still is very great, so much so that today it finds itself in overcrowded conditions. Here there are schools, markets, work and people still move from the coast to come and live here, on a strip of land 3km long and just 500m wide at its widest point. Breathe in the scent of the ocean, as if lost in a time that doesn't seem to exist. The atmosphere of Ilha struck many poets and artists who dedicated their verses to it. We will simply try to let ourselves be lulled by its sleepy rhythms and its lived-in air. The decadence of its buildings and its rich architecture could be food for thought to better understand the phases of colonialism. Walking along the seafront, admiring the fortress, getting lost in its market, listening to the muezzin who invites you to pray, walking on the beach and observing the calm of the people who live there: the philosophy of the island takes us right to the other side of the world. Overnight stay in a recently rehabilitated seventeenth-century colonial house. Bed and breakfast

HEALTH

No obligation to vaccination. Write to us to have more information!

We recommend these vaccines:

  • tetanus
  • typhoid fever
  • hepatitis A and B

Concerning malaria, disease transmitted by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito, its prevention is accomplished, first of all, with a mechanic prevention i.e. avoiding getting stung, following these rules:

  • sleeping under mosquito tents
  • using insecticide to get rid of possible mosquitos
  • after sunset, when mosquitos are more active, avoiding leaving parts of the body uncovered, wearing light-coloured long trousers and long-sleeve shirts, because dark colors attract mosquitos and spraying parts of the body uncovered with Autan Extreme

For the use of any possible antimalarial drugs we suggest that you consult your Public Health Service; health norms change very rapidly.

We suggest that you take with you a small supply of these medicines:

  • analgesics/fever reducers: acetylsalicylic acid and nimesulide
